The project will alleviate a major bottleneck on SH 360 at the Union Pacific railroad crossing where continuous frontage roads will be constructed and improve interchange operations for SH 360/SH 180 (Division Street). The bottleneck will be alleviated by constructing a new railroad bridge that will provide the proper width under it to place both the frontage roads and new main lane pavements. Railroad track improvements will also be adding four miles of trackage including an additional main line track and switch improvements in the Union Pacific and General Motors railyards. The SH 180 bridge will be built just south of the current bridge minimizing impacts to Division Street traffic.
The limits of this project span on SH 360 from just south of the Randol Mill Road bridge south to Abram Street. On SH 180/Division Street the limits span from the intersection with Six Flags Drive to the Six Flags Mall entrance. Railroad improvements are from Stadium Drive to Great Southwest Parkway.
The length of the project is 555 work days. Work began on March 8, 2009 and is anticipated to be complete in winter 2012.
This $56 million project will be constructed by W.W. Webber, LLC of Houston, Texas. It is being funded with both federal and state transportation funds.
During construction both SH 360 and SH 180, the same number of roadway lanes will be maintained. For the majority of time this project is under reconstruction, three lanes of traffic will be maintained on north and southbound SH 360, and two lanes of traffic will be maintained on east and westbound SH 180. There will be temporary lane closures during a day or overnight to allow the contractor to complete work. There will also be major closures of SH 360 with well signed detours that will occur on several weekends through the project to allow for the demolition of existing bridge structures. The detour path will be from SH 360 to east or west on Division Street to Stadium Drive or Great Southwest arkway to Abram Street back to SH 360.
The reconstruction of the interchange will require use of temporary access ramps from SH 180. The access ramps will be signalized where they intersect with Division Street.
The I-30 Mobility Task Force is involved with the re-construction of I-30 between Copper Street and Ballpark Way and the SH 360/SH 180 interchange, Union Pacific railroad bridge, and SH 360 mainlanes and frontage roads. The I-30 Mobility Task Force seeks to
